Before You Even Set Up Your Profile
- Create a separate email just for dating apps. You don’t need strangers tied to your personal or work life.
- Skip using your full name or anything that makes it easy to find you with a quick online search.
- Don’t link your Instagram or other social media to your profile — it makes it too easy for someone to trace you.
- Pick photos that show your personality, but maybe don’t include your street sign, your job badge, or your kid’s school in the background.
While You’re Chatting
- Pay attention to weird vibes — someone coming on too strong, dodging questions, sexting too soon or love-bombing right away.
- Never send money. Ever. Not even for "emergencies" or "plane tickets."
- Stay on the app for a bit. There’s no rush to move to texting outside the app.
- Ask real questions. If their answers feel off or robotic, trust your gut.
- Run a quick reverse image search.
Before You Meet Up
- Do a quick phone or video call to feel things out
- Tell a friend where you’re going, who you’re meeting, and when you expect to be home. Turn on your location so your friend can track you just incase.
- Pick a public spot you’re comfortable in — and make sure it’s somewhere you can leave easily if needed.
- Drive yourself or take your own Uber. Don’t rely on them for a ride.
The Day of the Date
- Show up a little early so you can get a feel for the place. Note the exits and find a seat near other people.
- Don’t leave your drink unattended, not even for a minute. Ever!
- Go easy on the alcohol, especially if you’re nervous — it’s easier to think clearly that way.
- Have a “get out” excuse ready. Something simple like needing to check on a friend or early plans tomorrow.
- If something feels off, it probably is. You don’t owe anyone an explanation — best thing to do is leave. Energy doesnt lie.
After the Date
- Jot down anything that felt off while it’s still fresh, especially if you might need to report it later.
- Don’t be afraid to report someone on the app. You could be protecting someone else too.
- Check in with your friend and let them know you got home safe.
